ALEX Labs Rental Studies: Austin had the biggest increase in high-income renters in Texas

ALEX Labs just completed analysis of Rent Cafe‘s report on Millionaire and High-Income Renters. Austin is no. 1 in Texas and no. 5 in the US with the biggest increases in high-income renters. Between 2015 and 2020, Austin had a 130% increase in the number of high-income renters. There were 7,753 in 2015 and there were 17,838 in 2020.

“…high-income renters nearly tripled in Seattle (169%) compared to 2015, making it the nation’s fastest-growing area for affluent renters…17% of renter households have an income of over $150,000…number increased from 12,305 to 33,111 in just five years — thanks, in part, to a healthy and diverse job market…Amazon and Microsoft, are fueling the employment needs…along with a booming biotech industry. Despite this, not even well-off Seattleites could keep pace with the growth of home prices in the last 5 years: 58%…”
